Roughly five years after Overwatch's disbandment, Overwatch member Winston issued a recall to all former agents, with the intention of re-establishing the organization. Genji was a member of Overwatch before it disbanded.

Genji: It seems we fight together again.

They share similar color palettes and like Kharazim, Zenyatta wears a large necklace styled after Buddhist monk prayer beads. Genji's master is an omnic monk known as Zenyatta who bears resemblance to Kharazim.

Kharazim: Are you prepared to bring balance to this realm?.Kharazim: This realm has need of warriors like us.Genji: Balance and harmony resonate around you.Hanzo: Think you can do better than me?.This act broke Hanzo's heart and drove him to reject his father's legacy, ultimately leading him to abandon the clan and all that he had worked so hard to attain. Unbeknownst to Hanzo, however, Genji narrowly survived the attempt with the help of Overwatch. When his brother refused, Hanzo was forced to kill him. Upon the death of his father, the clan elders instructed Hanzo to straighten out his wayward younger brother, Genji, so that he, too, might help rule the Shimada empire. This is most likely a reference to a scene in Kung Fu Panda where Tai Lung reacts to Po claiming to be the Dragon Warrior by saying the same quote. Chen: Come, let us fight for home, for family, and for honor!.but I sense we are more alike than we are different.
